Robin’s Rhymes

WG Lyttle is best remembered for his novel, Betsy Gray, about the 1798 rebellion in Ireland, but he was also an accomplished poet. He wrote poems both in Ulster-Scots and in English, often comedic but sometimes full of pathos or romance. Here, for the first time, AG Lyttle has compiled an anthology of his great-grandfather’s poetic writings, some of which WG wrote as entertainments for public gatherings. Others, he incorporated in his novels and short stories and many of these are written in the Ulster-Scots of his alter-ego, the elderly country farmer, “Robin Gordon of Ballycuddy.” This compilation is a treat for all fans of WG Lyttle and lovers of Ulster-Scots, everywhere.
